Old School:

Courses for Heritage Conservation

Old School is the leading heritage conservation education program in BC offering courses and workshops for professionals and homeowners on the theory and practice of conserving older buildings. The program highlights the connection between heritage conservation and sustainability by encouraging the reuse, repair and preservation of buildings.

Old School courses have been designed with you in mind if you are a:

contractor or renovator, trades person, realtor, City planner or City staffer, architect, appraiser, designer, engineer, building manager or inspector, do-it-yourselfer, heritage commission member or homeowner. Courses are not just relevant to Vancouverites.

If you have never worked with older buildings or would like to increase your knowledge about heritage conservation, these classes offer certification, learning credits and invaluable content specific to looking after both heritage AND older buildings.

The Mission Building Circa 1910 (archival photo VPL3893)

Old School courses are often hosted by the Mission to Seafarers in the “A” listed Flying Angel building at 401 E Waterfront Road. We are thrilled to continue a thriving collaboration with the Mission. Their building is the perfect “lab” for both technical and theoretical sessions. Parts of the building will be examined and rehabilitated as part of this interactive, hands-on course.

"As a the owner of a heritage house and coordinator for a Heritage Society, I have found the Old School courses informative, extremely well organized and presented by experts in their related fields. You would be hard pressed to find better value for your dollar.”
